The Sun News is the only daily newspaper in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
While at the newspaper, I grew from just one of a group of about a dozen page designers and copy editors into one of the most valuable members of the newsroom staff by taking on a variety of roles.
I became the paper's sole illustrator and graphic artist, took over managing all features content, served as editor of the Kicks! entertainment guide, led efforts to launch the paper's first blogs and helped design interactive graphics and elements for MyrtleBeachOnline.com.
My time in the newsroom taught me how to thrive in a fast-paced environment with always-changing deadlines, how to communicate effectively with an audience and how to always put the reader first.
During my 5 years there, my team and I won many awards for our coverage and design work, including being named the South Carolina Press Association's top graphic artist and page designer in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
