Location: Columbus, Ohio • Title: Web Administrator • Years worked: 2018
After 11 years in South Carolina, I returned to Ohio in 2017 and soon found an opportunity to continue to promote the tourism industry in my home state.
Joining the Ohio Department of Development Services as part of TourismOhio, the state's tourism marketing agency, I was chosen from more than 100 applicants to become the Web Administrator for Ohio.org, the state's main tourism portal.
Though I was hired to serve as a webmaster and manager for the day-to-day operations of a growing site with more than 7 million page views per year, this project quickly became another opportunity to grow as a developer and designer.
A desire to bring the development and maintenance of Ohio.org in-house — as opposed to managed by a third-party vendor contract — has led to the re-development of the site, moving from a Drupal CMS to Wordpress.
This has allowed for a design overhaul of the site as well as the addition of new content and a refined focus on SEO, planned for a launch later in 2018.
This position has also given me an opportunity to continue to grow as a communicator and project manager, working with stakeholders in the tourism, communications and information technology departments to collaborate on a large-scale project to find new ways to promote the state's Ohio. Find It Here. brand online.
