Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy, 740 Coastal Grand Circle, Coastal Grand Mall, has chosen five of its six finalists to compete in its first-ever Cinco de Mayo Battle of the Band which will take place at 5 p.m. on May 5.
The sixth and final slot in the competition will be chosen by fan vote (see poll below) from a field of four great local bands.
The bands, which will compete for more than $1,500 in cash & prizes, are as follows:
- 5 p.m. — Fan Vote Finalist
- 6 p.m. — Coman Sproles & Celtic Bluze (Blues/Rock)
- 7 p.m. — Treehouse (Reggae)
- 8 p.m. — Eddie Ate Dynamite (Rock/Alternative)
- 9 p.m. — Prowler
- 10 p.m. — Below The Bassline
Each band wil perform a 30-45 minute set and be judged by a panel who will rate them in five categories on their performance.
The night will also feature one of the area's biggest Cinco de Mayo celebrations featuring deals on great Mexican food and drink specials starting at 11 a.m., a beer garden sponsored by Better Brands, a margarita station, giveaways throughout the night and plenty of other fun & games.
Fan Vote: It's Up To You!
Organizers have decided to put the power in your hands in deciding the final spot in the Battle of the Bands. Cast your vote below for one of four local groups: Christian rock band Sky Falls Down, Reggae group Jah Harvest, Hard rockers Bitterseed and Punk/rock act Bamboo Forest. Voting is allowed once per fan, per 24 hour period, through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday May 1.
