After a great kickoff show with Octopus Jones, Miracle Year and Bamboo Forest last month, we're thrilled to announce we'll be hosting the next ListenUp Loves local music showcase March 26.
ListenUp Loves is a series of monthly shows for readers of the area's only music-centered publication. These events bring great music of all genres to the forefront by featuring some of the Grand Strand's best-known acts and supporting emerging talent by giving up-and-coming artists a chance to perform.
This month's event ListenUp Loves Prowler will take place once again at the Island Bar & Grill Surfside, 2272 Glenns Bay Road, in the same location that was gracious enough to accomodate our inaugural show after the untimely closing of Drink!
Kicking off the night will be Conception of Being, a group of metalheads from Carolina Forest and Waccamaw high schools. These talented young musicians were the runners-up in last month's vote to open for Octopus Jones. With our cover band contest in full effect — and since they're such a great fit musically — we've decided to forego another vote this month and bring these guys into the mix for their first big show out.
Also performing will be Columbia-based band Invader, a group that has been tearing up the capital city since 2007. Taking a page out of the playbook from metal acts such as as Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Queensryche, Judas Priest, and Metallica, the band brings a in-your-face sound and energetic live show.
Headlining the night will be Myrtle Beach's own Prowler. Consisting of Patrick Best (vocals/guitar), Jak Sumwalt (drums) and Shawn Bruce (bass), the band has quickly become one of Myrtle Beach's most unique acts with a mix of classic metal and songs which are based on classic horror films such as Night of the Living Dead, Friday the 13th and Halloween. Playing locally for the first time since their CD release party, the band hopes to continue building on its growing following of loyal fans.
And what would a night of horror-influenced metal be without some zombies? Folks looking to get a jump on April's zombie walk will be able to get made-up during the show by local production company Kluckin Films and other area make-up artists.
In addition, we'll once again be giving away prizes throughout the night to fans who take the time to sign up below for the show's guest list. Don't miss out on your chance to win free T-shirts, CDs, House of Blues tickets, drinks and more!
