April's ListenUp Loves showcase will take place April 9 in the "Best Backyard in Town" at The Boathouse Waterway Bar & Grill in conjunction with a great local event called CREATE South.
Now in its fourth year, CREATE South (Carolina Regional Exposition of Art, Technology and Education) is a conference that focuses on those interested in art, blogging, podcasting, video, social networking or any other form of self-expression. Serving the residents from the Grand Strand and all over the East Coast, it is a venue to bring together like minded people to network, teach, and learn.
ListenUp Loves CREATE South will serve as the official afterparty of this year's event — with free food and drink specials for attendees — and will also be open to the public as another great showcase for local and regional acts with giveaways and free prezies throughout the night.
This will be a party to remember bringing together some of the region's most saavy internet entrepeneurs and tech professionals with local artists, musicians and business owners for a night of networking and amazing music — and maybe a few drinks.
Here's a look at this month's lineup:
One of the area’s fastest-rising bands, Treehouse will kick off the evening performing at 6 p.m. This three-piece reggae rock outfit consisting of vocalist Jeremy Anderson, bassist Matt Link and drummer Trey Moody, makes music inspired by Sublime, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, and 311, with an original twist that has garnered them a rabid following locally. Having recently recorded material in Nashville and Myrtle Beach, the band is set to release its debut album in May and will perform its first House of Blues show in April.

Hailing from the musical hotbed of Atlanta, Ga., Planet Rock is an awesome alternative hip-hop act fronted by charismatic MC Charlie Ahanotu. The group will bring an energetic performance — complete with live band — and a style that combines electronics and dance beats to create a distinctive blend of rock and hip-hop. The band is currently tearing up dates around the ATL and throughout the Southeast. This will be their first show at the beach since rocking out at Drink! late last year with local electronic outfit Science Factory.
It wouldn't be the beach without a cover band, and we've decided to nab one of the Grand Strand's Best Cover Bands, Take Cover. This three-piece was formed in the grand tradition of bands such as Me First & The Gimme Gimmes by taking classic hits of the 70s, 80s and beyond and giving them a kick-ass punk overhaul. Taking on everything from The Beach Boys to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Rancid, these guys bring an awesome energy that will be a perfect way to close out the night.
We cannot stress enough that if you consider yourself creative at all you need to get over to CREATESouth.org and check out details on a day full of great events and SIGN UP to attend before they sell out. If we sound a bit like pitchmen for the event, its because we are. CREATE holds a very special place for us here at ListenUp as one of the biggest inspirations for starting this site and believing we could make a difference in the local music community. Please do yourself a favor and check it out.
