In our opinion, the Monday after the Super Bowl should really be a national holiday for recovering from the pseudo-patriotic overindulging that is synonymous with the Big Game. But alas, Monday has come and it's time to start another week of great music here on the Grand Strand.
So, whether your recovering from a few too many "good luck" shots, still digesting that 6-foot sub, or just nursing your wounds after a bitter Steelers loss, we figure there's no better way to forget about all that than to lose yourself in these interesting sites, stories and songs from around the web the past week:
1. WKZQ Concert announcement
According to 96.1's Facebook page, they're planning a big concert announcement at 10 a.m. this morning for an upcoming House of Blues show. From what we hear this should be a pretty exciting show featuring at least one big up-and-coming act and will likely be very inexpensive to attend.
Yeah, that's not saying a whole lot, we know. But we'd hate to steal their thunder or get one of the area's only remaining rock stations on our bad side, so instead we'll simply give you a hint (and maybe some free music as well).
P.S. -- House or Blues also has at least one announcement planned today with a pair of punk bands coming in April...check back for details on that.
2. Super Bowl music round-up
Yeah, so we lied. We haven't forgotten about the Packers Super Bowl victory and we definitely haven't forgotten about the music and entertainment surrounding the big game.
From Christina Aguilera looking like a whore at a funeral and forgetting her words to Fergie trying to karaoke Axl Rose, there was plenty to harp on...but there were some interesting moments as well including the always-lovely Lea Michele and the amazing combination of skinny jeans and MC Hammer pants that allowed Usher to jump down a set of stairs into a split.
And if, by chance, you live in a cave (or just need another look while sober) here's a few links to recap the action:

3. The Beat Magazine
We've been slowly catching up on all the cool culture and music-related publications in our region and the latest of these we've discovered is a Wilmington-based magazine called "The Beat."
This monthly guide to arts & entertainment in the Port City includes a ton of musical content, not the least of which is an online segment of weekly picks for shows and events happening around the Cape Fear area.
True, depending on where you live in town it could be anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to Wilmington, but they do have some cool venues like The Soap Box and others that get a different caliber of indie acts that rarely make it down to the beach.
4. The Restoration "Henry's Letter From the Front"
We hate to keep gushing about SceneSC, but the guys out in Columbia have been really working hard lately starting a brand-new podcast this week and putting out their 2011 sampler from which our song of the week comes.
The Restoration is a band which hails from Lexington, S.C., and has garnered some buzz around the state for a style of music which has been described as orchestral indie-pop with bluegrass instruments.
No matter what you call it, The Restoration and it's slow-building war tale "Henry's Letter From the Front" are definitely unqiue and worth checking out.
5. Beavis and Butthead are back!
That's right, in case you hadn't heard, MTV has officially confirmed that Mike Judge has created 30 new episodes of his show featuring the teenage deliquents. This is amazing news for fans of the mid-90s show who are sick of watching the reruns on MTV2.
Here's the details on the return of the show, now enjoy one of our fave episodes from the boys:
