Drink!, a downtown venue known for bringing in local and touring acts to Myrtle Beach, has closed its doors.
As of Friday evening, staff, friends and family of owner Kris Amendola were working within the now-closed bar, located at 503 8th Ave. N., to remove equipment such as lighting, televisions, PA equipment and other items to take them to storage for future sale or movement to another location.
"Music in Myrtle Beach is a tough business," said Joey Amendola, Kris' brother.
Joey, who formerly owned and operated The Clubhouse where his sister worked said that while he doesn't plan on getting back into the business of owning a venue, he wouldn't rule out the likelihood that a place owned by Kris would be back soon.
"She just thought it would be best to close now in order to try and reopen," said Lea Amendola, Kris' aunt. "I'm sure she's having a little bit of a heart attack right now and trying to sort out things, but she'll be back."
We'll have more on this story in the coming days...If you'd like to show your love for one of Myrtle Beach's favorite musical venues, leave a comment below or visit Drink!'s Facebook page and join the fans who have already left their well wishes.
In the meantime, the ListenUp Love Octopus Jones show which we had planned for next Friday Feb. 18, will now be held at the Island Bar & Grill, 2272 Glenns Bay Road, Surfside Beach. More details to be announced very soon.
Thanks for your support and thanks to Drink! for all it has done for local music!
