Those who love the downhome sounds of bluegrass will want to head out to Conway Saturday as the Rivertown Bluegrass Society will host The Morris Brothers and Cabin Creek at 5 p.m., as part of the organization’s concert series held monthly at the Horry Georgetown Technical College Burroughs & Chapin Auditorium. Pre-show is set to begin at 3 p.m.
The Morris Brothers have been playing bluegrass & bluegrass gospel music for over 30 years. Mike & Matt Morris were raised up around the Elk River area of West Virginia. They moved to the Aynor/Cool Spring area of South Carolina about 24 years ago. They have opened up for such bands as Rhonda Vincent, Reno Brothers, Mountain Heart, Larry Stevens and Grandpa Jones.
Attendees are encouraged to bring an acoustic instrument and participate in one of the jam sessions that begin 3 p.m. and run throughout the monthly event. No electric instruments, other than electric bass, are allowed. An open mic pre-show begins at 4:30 p.m. and is for any musician who does not have a band, or for any band that has never played on stage before.
Admission into the event is $10 for Rivertown Bluegrass Society members and $12 for non-members. Monthly concerts are always held on the 3rd Saturday of each month.
