Returning to my home state to begin a life with my soon-to-be wife, in 2004 I began working at Ohio's oldest newspaper, The Chillicothe Gazette.
In this once-thriving industrial town, I further honed my craft as a news designer, learning a number of valuable lessons about how to be a journalist.
Here, I adopted what would become the defining characteristic of my career going forward, taking on a variety of roles and working as a designer, artist, copy editor, columnist, and web manager.
During this time I began to write, publishing a weekly column on technology in the paper, spewing out all 24 years of my knowledge on emerging technologies like MP3s, blogs, podcasts and online shopping.
I also played a part in several successful projects, including the launch of Scioto Valley Faith, a faith-based monthly publication designed to cater the area's large and thriving community of churchgoers.
In addition, I secured my first design awards with Ohio Associated Press honors in 2005 and 2006 for best illustration, best page design and best special section for Scioto Valley Faith.
