• Location: Marion, IN • Title: Page Designer • Years: 2003-2004
After graduating from Ohio University in 2003, my first job landed at a small, yet respected newspaper called the Chronicle-Tribune in Marion, IN.
A great introduction to the wild world of daily news, the C-T's talented staff helped show me the ropes of what it meant to be a journalist — not just a designer.
While cutting my teeth laying out news, features and sports pages, I was able to learn how to clearly communicate with an audience and the importance of not just making things "pretty" but also engaging and informative.
During my 18 months in "James Dean" country, I grew by leaps and bounds, both as a person and a designer.
I contributed to a variety of great projects here including helping report stories and create infographics on how an archaeological dig works, how local government passes a bill, and the ins and outs of being a "professional" wrestler on a local level.
