Faimkills - "You Don't Know My Faim"
I've mentioned this cat on here before as someone I came across online and have now been following on Twitter. He has a new mixtape out which you can download here. This is probably my favorite track (I'm still a soul-sample sorta guy), but there are plenty of others good ones in various styles (including this one with the Mickey Mouse Club sample) , so check it out if you get a chance.
Skyzoo - "Popularity"
Love the album. There's a lot of great lyrics and sickness beyond this track for true hip-hop heads, but gotta give props to this song for the catchy hook and "Saved by the Bell" themed video.
Heiruspecs - "5ves"
This song is old (I got hooked on them in like 2005, when they released "A Tiger Dancing") but I recently came across a compliation of some of their stuff from the past 10 years and I started to remember just how beautifully composed it is and how much I love the introspective feel of the track. In case you've never heard of them, Heiruspecs is a live, hip-hop band (think The Roots) from Minneapolis that has put out some great music of their own and toured as a backup band to Atmosphere and others.
And finally...
Jay Electronica - "Renaissance Man"
I still don't know a whole lot about this cat, but I ran across this song on Last.fm a couple weeks back and I've been trying to get my hands on everything he's done since then. I suppose I should withold final judgement until I've listened to more, but of the few tracks I've heard I'm blown away by the depth and skill he possesses as a lyricist. Check it out.
